The blockbusters got cheap; the time didn’t
This is an archive of the Steam sale from the first week of August 2026. The discounts have ended and the prices above are from that time.
Six of the ten sat under ₩10,000, and all six were genuine big names. But a low price doesn’t mean a low commitment. What really separates these isn’t cost — it’s the time they ask for.
Three open worlds — different cities, different play
Batman: Arkham Knight, The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 shared this list.
Batman: Arkham Knight is the tightest and densest. One city means you rarely get lost, and since traversal and combat are themselves the fun, it never sags.
The Witcher 3 is the opposite: every quest is a story. With the expansions, a hundred hours is routine, so start it knowing that.
Cyberpunk 2077 — if you remember it from launch, treat the current version as a different game. Its reputation changed more than anything else here.
Two games with no ending, ending in opposite ways
Civilization VI has no ending because each finished run starts a different civilisation. It’s the one you restart.
Monster Hunter: World has no ending because you re-hunt the same monsters to build gear. It’s the one you dig into. Two opposite kinds of infinity.
Playing alone? Drop two of these
Overcooked 2 is really about shouting at each other across a kitchen. Solo works, but the reason to buy it disappears. Monster Hunter: World also plays solo, though a party changes the experience substantially.
The other eight are single-player, so you can pick them regardless of who’s around.
If you’re looking at this now
These blockbusters tend to return at similar depths every summer and winter sale. Civ VI and The Witcher 3 have repeated the same band for years, so there’s little reason to rush at full price.
Beast of Reincarnation and Marvel Tōkon at the bottom were unreleased then, so they weren’t discounts. Both have review scores now — go by current reviews, not the anticipation write-up.
