This post is the record of our third-week September Nintendo Switch eShop sale episode. The prices on the cards above are eShop prices from that week, while the price graph further down each game page tracks Steam (PC) — two different stores. If you’re reading this later, the deals may well be over, so treat what follows as a guide to who you’d play these with.
All eleven games are only half a game on your own. That changes how you choose: instead of grabbing whatever scores highest, decide first how many people you have, and whether they’re on your couch or logging in from home. The lineup splits four ways.
Both are two-player-only, so a third person watches. In exchange, both build their design around that limit. In BOKURA you share a space but each screen shows a different world, so you can’t move a step without describing what you see. Opinions split hard on the ending, so buy it for the journey rather than the payoff. LEGO Voyagers is the calmer, safer one, and it has a Friend’s Pass: only one of you has to buy it. Split between two people, ₩16,140 is the lightest real cost in this lineup. Note that on Switch it’s Switch 2 only.
These four live on local multiplayer and pay off when people are in the room. Overcooked! All You Can Eat bundles games 1 and 2 with every DLC, which is enormous value, but online play still stutters from ping gaps according to a steady stream of reviews. Buy it for the person sitting next to you. Streets of Rogue runs four players locally from one copy, and since your character choice changes the genre itself, even a friend who doesn’t play games has something to do. SpiderHeck strips it down to pure brawling for ₩5,240, and Just Shapes & Beats — even with four players — has everyone watching their own dodges, making it co-op that needs no conversation.
These are the ones you schedule. Tribes of Midgard keeps the server saved even when everyone logs off and lets a partial group continue, which makes it the most forgiving when calendars don’t line up. The Survivalists has a genuinely distinctive hook — training monkeys to do your work — but the game explains almost nothing, so you’ll want at least one person willing to look things up. Content Warning is the only one here where a run is short and the result becomes a video, so it works even with people you’ve just met. Deadzone: Rogue is a three-player roguelite shooter, but the studio announced a sequel nine months after its 1.0 launch and recent reviews turned harsh. Don’t buy it expecting future updates.
It’s the only game here with online matchmaking behind it, so it stands up without a group. There is an edition trap, though: a separate Switch 2 Edition exists and it costs more. The standard version runs on Switch 2 as well, so unless you specifically want the visuals and higher frame rate, the ₩27,920 standard edition is the sensible buy.
The end dates are scattered — September 20th, 22nd, 25th, 27th, 30th and October 4th. Overcooked and The Survivalists expired first, and LEGO Voyagers and Deadzone: Rogue are Switch 2 only, so they aren’t even purchasable on an original Switch. And the real saving in this episode isn’t the discount percentage — it’s whether one copy covers two players, the way a Friend’s Pass does.
