This is a record of an episode that tied the second-week September Nintendo Switch eShop sale together under one genre: roguelikes. The prices on the cards above are eShop prices from that week, while the price graph on each game page is Steam (PC) based, so the two stores differ. If you’re reading this later, most deals may be over—treat the below as a guide to which one to pick.

All roguelikes, yet so different

All ten share the “die and restart” backbone, but how they feel in your hands splits completely. There are the ones you play with your head via dice (Astrea, Die in the Dungeon), the ones you play with your hands (Spiritfall, Tunche, Morsels, Haste), and the ones you share a screen for (Risk of Rain 2, Ship of Fools, SWORN, PlateUp). Grabbing every “roguelike deal” leaves you with overlap, so split them by the axes below and take just the one you need.

Deckbuilding with your head — Astrea vs Die in the Dungeon

Both roll a deck of dice instead of cards, but they feel different. Astrea is a calculation game of balancing HP between Purify and Corrupt, with a far deeper pool of reviews. Die in the Dungeon leans closer to a board-placement puzzle and is much harder. If you love digging for the correct build, go Die; if you want a polished, stable package, go Astrea. Note the Switch version of Astrea has no Korean support—check that first if English is a barrier for you.

Solo vs with friends

Going solo, Spiritfall (aerial-combo action), Morsels (twin-stick), Tunche (beat-’em-up), and Haste (speed runner) fit best. Haste in particular is Switch 2 only, so check your hardware first. With friends it’s a different story—Risk of Rain 2 is the item-stacking high with up to four players, Ship of Fools is a two-person voyage that tests friendships via friendly fire, SWORN is “Hades you can play in multiplayer,” and PlateUp is co-op management where you wreck a kitchen together.

Run length and volume

For short, light sessions, coffee-money Tunche is painless; on the flip side, a single Risk of Rain 2 run stretches to 40 minutes and melts your evening whole. PlateUp and SWORN keep unlocking as you replay, so they hold you longer, while Morsels and Die in the Dungeon have unfriendly systems that split opinion.

If you’re reading this now

Nintendo eShop sales run longer than Steam’s, but the same game returns less often. If you missed it, Steam (PC) sales come around more frequently—check the Steam-based price graph on each game page—and indie roguelikes generally discount shallowly but often, so there’s no rush to pay full price. Before buying, just confirm Korean support (Astrea has none) and the target device (Haste is Switch 2 only).
